Inaugural Address
“ Let us remember that America was built not by government, but by people—not by welfare, but by work—not by shirking responsibility, but by seeking responsibility.” –Richard Milhous Nixon, Saturday, January 20, 1973.
When reading through some of the inaugural addresses, I realized that everything each president said, whether it was Abraham Lincoln or Bill Clinton, was very similar. The wording was a little different, but the main ideas that were presented might as well have been the same speech. When I read Nixon’s second inaugural address from 1973, one particular sentence really stuck out to me: “ Let us remember that America was built not by government, but by people—not by welfare, but by work—not by shirking responsibility, but by seeking responsibility. “ That quote is very applicable to my life right now and I thought that it would be the best quote to use.
When drawing thumbnails for this project I felt like I was really getting somewhere until I had to add the words in. I really struggled with making my piece flow and have movement. My final piece, I feel, is successful. I really like that it is easily read and I think I highlighted the right words to make the quote really come alive. The colors work really well together because they seem very solid, which goes along well with my quote.
